FAQ

How does the collision repair process work?

Collision repair moves through eight stages: free estimate, insurance approval, teardown, structural repair, body repair, paint, reassembly and calibration, quality control, and delivery. At 1st Effect Auto each stage is handled by factory-trained technicians using OEM parts.

Every job at 1st Effect Auto follows the same eight stages, whether it's a single-panel dent or a multi-week structural rebuild. Knowing the sequence in advance helps you understand timelines and why some repairs take longer than others.

  1. 1. Free estimate

You drive in or have the vehicle towed to 325 US-46, Rockaway. We photograph the damage and write an itemized estimate at no charge.

  2. 2. Insurance approval

We submit the estimate to your carrier and answer their questions. Repairs begin as soon as the claim is authorized.

  3. 3. Teardown

Damaged panels come off so the technician can inspect for hidden damage to crash structure, suspension, and electronics. We submit a supplement to your insurer for anything not visible at the first estimate.

  4. 4. Structural repair

If the unibody or frame is bent, the vehicle is pulled on a computerized measuring bench until every reference point matches the manufacturer's specification.

  5. 5. Body repair

Replacement panels — bumpers, fenders, doors, quarter panels — are installed using OEM parts and the manufacturer's welding, bonding, and riveting procedures.

  6. 6. Paint

Bare metal is primed and sealed. A spectrophotometer measures the existing color, paint is mixed to match, and the panels are sprayed in a downdraft booth with adjacent panels blended for an invisible repair.

  7. 7. Reassembly & calibration

Trim, lights, sensors, and bumpers go back on. A post-repair scan clears any fault codes, and ADAS systems such as lane-keep and forward-collision cameras are recalibrated when needed.

  8. 8. Quality control & delivery

A senior technician inspects fit, finish, and function. We detail the vehicle, walk you around it, and hand you the keys. You pay only your deductible.

How long does it take?

A cosmetic single-panel repair is typically a few days. A moderate collision with two or three replaced panels runs about a week. Structural repair, hidden-damage supplements, and back-ordered OEM parts can extend that to two or three weeks. We give you a realistic timeline at the estimate and update you as the job progresses.
