FAQ

How much does collision repair cost?

It depends on the severity of the damage, the parts required, the paint work, and any hidden structural damage. If the accident is covered by insurance, you typically pay only your deductible and we bill the rest to your carrier. What drives the cost

  • Severity of damage

A scraped bumper is a fraction of the cost of a hit involving frame, suspension, and airbags. Damage you can't see — bent radiator supports, cracked sub-frames, deployed sensors — often shows up only during teardown.

  • OEM vs aftermarket parts

OEM parts cost more than aftermarket but protect resale value, fit correctly, and keep ADAS sensors calibrated. Many insurance policies cover OEM parts; check yours.

  • Paint and blending

Single-stage solid colors are simpler than three-stage pearls or metallics. Adjacent panels may need to be blended so the repair is invisible — that takes more material and time.

  • Hidden damage & supplements

If teardown reveals additional damage we submit a supplement to your insurer. This is normal and is one of the most common reasons the final invoice differs from the first estimate.

  • Calibrations & scans

Modern vehicles require pre- and post-repair scans, and ADAS systems (forward-collision, lane-keep, blind-spot) often need to be recalibrated after a collision.

If you're paying out of pocket

For uninsured cosmetic work — door dings, paintless dent repair, minor scratches, a single-panel respray — bring the vehicle in and we'll write a free estimate on the spot. There is no obligation.

If you're filing a claim

You typically pay only your deductible (commonly $250–$1,000 depending on your policy). 1st Effect Auto bills the remainder directly to your insurance carrier and handles supplements when hidden damage is found. See how the insurance process works for full details.
