Can I choose my own body shop after an accident?
Yes. In New Jersey you have the legal right to choose any licensed auto body shop you want — including 1st Effect Auto. Your insurance company can recommend a shop in their network, but they cannot require you to use it.

What the law actually says
Under New Jersey insurance regulations (N.J.A.C. 11:3-10), the policyholder selects the repair facility. The insurance carrier owes you a fair, reasonable repair — they do not own the decision of who performs it. If an adjuster pressures you toward a network shop or implies the warranty only applies at "their" facility, that's a sales pitch, not the law.
Why insurers push their network
Direct Repair Program (DRP) shops have agreements with the carrier to control labor rates and parts sourcing. That can be efficient for the insurer — and it can also mean aftermarket parts where OEM was warranted, or shortcuts on procedures the manufacturer specifies. You don't have to accept that trade-off.
How to tell your insurer you're using 1st Effect Auto
- When you file the claim, tell the adjuster: "I'm using 1st Effect Auto at 325 US-46 in Rockaway. Please send the assignment there."
